Prof. Paul B. Spiegel, director of the Center for Humanitarian Health at
the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, went for more than six
weeks to Poland and other countries neighboring Ukraine as an emergency
coordinator for refugee health within the World Health Organization surge
team.

As an expert on responding to complex humanitarian emergencies, Prof.
Spiegel will speak in a live interview to discuss the unique aspects of
this disaster as well as the challenges that lie ahead.

Paul B. Spiegel, MD, MPH
Director of the Center for Humanitarian Health @ Johns Hopkins Bloomberg
School of Public Health

Prof. Spiegel, a Canadian physician and epidemiologist by training, is one
of the few humanitarians in the world that both responds to and researches
humanitarian emergencies.

He is internationally recognized for his research on preventing and
responding to humanitarian emergencies, and more recently broader issues of
migration.

Before becoming Center for Humanitarian Health Director, Prof. Spiegel was
the deputy director of the Division of Program Management and Support
Services for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Prior to
joining the UN in 2002, Prof. Spiegelworked as a medical epidemiologist in
the International Emergency and Refugee Health Branch at the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention.

He also worked as a medical coordinator with Médecins Sans Frontières and
Médecins du Monde in refugee emergencies, as well as a consultant for
numerous organizations.
